Visible Implant Fluorescent Elastomer (VIE) Shrimp and Fish Tags Hand Injection Kits
The Visible Implant Fluorescent Elastomer (VIE) tagging system was developed to provide externally visible internal marks for fish and other aquatic animals. The elastomer system utilizes a specially developed, biocompatible, two part fluorescent elastomer material. After mixing, the elastomer is a liquid that can be injected into tissue with a hypodermic syringe. This material cures into a pliable solid that serves as a cohesive, well-defined mark. The use of different colors in combination with different body locations offers the potential for developing a range of unique identifications. The marks can be seen with the naked eye but are greatly enhanced with special illumination.
Elastomer is available in nine colors and also clear. Red, orange, yellow and green fluoresce under blue light; while black, purple, brown and white are non-fluorescent colors. Blue and clear fluoresce only under UV light.
The elastomer comes in 15cc dial-a-dose syringes for convenient use. It may be dispensed in as small or as large a dose as needed. Each cc of elastomer can make from 10 to 200 tags. The number of tags per cc of elastomer will vary depending on tagging time, size and availability of specimens to be tagged. The hand injector is designed to apply maximum pressure to allowing for the elastomer to be dispensed easily from a 29-gage needle.
